Dear Mr Williams
Re: Lead Programmer position, Ref: 527DRE
I wish to apply for the position of Lead Programmer as advertised recently on the GameWorks website.
I have five years’ experience working as a developer on next generation console games – Xbox 360 and PS3 – and now have a sufficient depth of knowledge to take on a more senior role.
For the past 18 months I have been employed as a game programmer at Stingray Studios. Our major project – The Return of the Thing (TRT) – ships in two months and I would like to use the game’s successful completion as an opportunity to take the next step in my career. Contributing to TRT has allowed me to apply my advanced C++ skills to the core and game systems but I have also had exposure to most areas of the development cycle, including 3D graphics rendering, physics, AI and animation.
I have an ability to think architecturally, have a strong understanding of software engineering principles and practices, and experience writing specifications and technical design documentation.
My communication skills, both oral and written, are efficient and clear. I have strong leadership abilities demonstrated when leading the team at Stingray Studios while the Lead Programmer was away for two months. During this period the team beat its deadlines by two days and there were minimal bugs in the coding. I was commended for my ability to mobilise the team in the face of challenges and for my ability to quickly resolve issues.
I have long admired GameWorks’ third-person action games, particularly Pulp lll – You’re History, Sucker, and am very keen to join your team. My resume is attached and I look forward to being able to discuss the position with you further.
