About this course

This Graduate Certificate in Accounting course covers the fundamental units you'll need to progress your accounting career. With this qualification, you'll satisfy the entry requirements of professional accounting organisations and have the option of applying for your Master of Professional Accounting.

In addition to studying the core units required in this course, you can choose from a range of elective units in order to round out your coursework. Options include auditing, accounting theory and research, legal studies, taxation law and management information systems.

Delivered entirely online by the University of New England (UNE), this course allows you to build a flexible study schedule that complements your work and personal commitments.


To be eligible for entry into this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant field* from a recognised education provider; OR
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in a non-relevant field from a recognised education provider; OR
  • Have at least five years' of work experience, including three years in accounting, approved by the course coordinator.

Non-degree-holding applicants must also submit a 1000-word essay detailing the following:

  • Their most significant experiences or professional achievements; AND
  • Their long-term objectives and expectations of this course in terms of fulfilling these objectives; AND
  • Where they see themselves five years from now; AND
  • Why they possess the capacity to be admitted to this program without a prior degree, and the skills they hold that will enable them to meet the course learning outcomes; AND
  • Any other information relevant to their admission.

Evidence of English language proficiency must also be submitted by applicants whose previous studies were not in English.

*Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to, accounting and business.

You may be eligible for advanced standing if your previous education and experience meet certain criteria.

Finance options

Eligible students can apply for FEE-HELP to cover the upfront costs of all or part of your fees. Alternatively, you can pay annually for the units you select to study in that year.

The University of New England also offers a number of scholarships to successful applicants.

You may be eligible to receive FEE-HELP for this course!

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees on your behalf. You’ll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $54,869 (2016-17 income year).
