About this course

This online Diploma of Horticulture (AHC50410) course is the perfect study option for gardening enthusiasts, agricultural professionals and landscapers alike.

Delivered by the Open Training and Education Network (OTEN) in partnership with SEEK Learning, this online course offers students the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to cultivate and nurture plants. Students are trained to take an ecological approach to planting design, and taught how to develop environmental management strategies, manage landscape projects and how to carry out physiological assessments on topography and vegetation.

The course has a strong practical focus, and will also train students to correctly collect and classify plants, identify and diagnose plant disorders and assess the physical and biological requirements of a variety of plant species.


To be eligible to apply for this course, applicants must:

  • Hold a Certificate III in Horticulture (ACH30710); OR
  • Have demonstrated experience in the landscape design or construction industry; AND
  • Have regular access to two landscape sites

Students who choose to pay for this course through a VET FEE-HELP study loan will also be required to meet the following criteria:

  • Provide a Year 12 Senior Secondary Certificate of Education; OR
  • Successfully complete a Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test

After this period, students will be charged 19.95% per annum on the amount that remains to be paid.

This course can be paid for through the VET FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees on your behalf. You’ll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $54,869 (2016-17 income year).
