About this course

Develop your knowledge in urban and regional planning with the Diploma in Town Planning course, offered online and on campus by the University of New England (UNE).

This course will teach you how to analyse and evaluate approaches to land-use and built-environment problems in a range of changing social, economic and environmental contexts. It is an introductory course, designed to provide an opportunity for those who have never undertaken university study before. It also provides a pathway to further university study.

While completion of the diploma does not in itself lead to membership of the Planning Institute of Australia, further study at a bachelor level can lead to membership; the UNE Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning is fully accredited with the Planning Institute of Australia.

Eligibility

To be eligible for entry into this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree or postgraduate qualification from an Australian university, or an equivalent qualification from an approved institution; OR
  • Have evidence of an approved professional qualification or vocational experience that satisfies UNE that the applicant possesses the capacity to undertake study at an appropriate level to this course; OR
  • Have satisfied any prerequisites and/or additional requirements prescribed for the course; OR
  • Hold any Certificate IV from TAFE.

You may be eligible for advanced standing if your previous education and experience meet certain criteria.

Eligible students can apply for FEE-HELP to cover the upfront costs of all or part of your fees.

The University of New England also offers a number of scholarships to successful applicants.

You may be eligible to receive FEE-HELP for this course!

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees on your behalf. You’ll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $54,869 (2016-17 income year).
