About this unit

An online undergraduate unit provided by Curtin University and Open Universities Australia, Interior Architecture Expressive Structures Studio helps you to develop an intuitive understanding of the nature and principles of structure, through an exploration of technological methods, model making and experimentation. Topics include the basic elements of structural compression, communication of design through drawing and modelling, and structural systems advanced forms.

On completion of this unit you will be able to identify basic elements of compression and tension and apply a knowledge of basic structural elements within a broader design methodology. You will also be able to evaluate structural systems and analyse the response of structural elements within a given design context.

This unit is delivered via a range of learning methods and resources, including fieldwork and furniture workshops throughout the semester, podcasting, streaming multimedia, web links, printable materials and online assignment submission. Assessment consists of a series of assignment projects and reports.
