Course Unit
A course unit is a single subject offered as part of a program of study, but can be completed individually. You may receive Recognition of Prior Learning for studying this unit.

What you'll learn

About this unit

Offered by Open Universities Australia and Curtin University, this undergraduate unit in Advanced Editing and Publishing gives students the opportunity to learn and use practical editing skills.

Building on existing knowledge from a previous unit (Writing, Editing and Publishing), the course aims to take students' editing skills to a professional level. Participants in this online course will apply their editing skills to a real-world publishing project. Students will be assessed on this project, along with a written assignment, an editing journal and a report. These forms of assessment ensure that the ability to work both independently and within a team is nurtured.

When the 13-week course is completed, students will be able to apply their language skills to professional copy-editing and proofreading projects, critiquing fiction and non-fiction work, and providing feedback to authors in a constructive and sensitive way.

Applicants need to have completed the following unit successfully in order to enrol on this course:

  • Writing, Editing and Publishing
