This online American Politics unit, provided by Macquarie University and Open Universities Australia, gives students a rounded understanding of the US political system. This allows them to discuss the key political issues and critically compare them to other political systems around the globe.
This online unit lasts for 13 weeks and covers a different aspect of American political life each week. Opening with wider discussions about US beliefs, values and the ideals held in the US constitution, the unit goes on to discuss key institutions, such as the presidency and Congress, before applying political theory in the closing weeks through discussions based around social and economic policy.
To enrol in this unit, applicants must have studied politics at 200 level.

At the culmination of the American Politics unit, students will be able to discover, analyse and understand contemporary and historical US political sources. This will allow them to differentiate between alternative political views and standpoints and display the strengths and weaknesses of these opinions in written and oral form. Understanding will be enhanced through regular group discussion about all the key US political institutions and figures.
