Language is a uniquely human trait that defines our cultures and sets mankind apart from the animal kingdom. This unit provides insight into how language is formed and understood by the human brain.
Offered by Macquarie University and Open Universities Australia, the Brain and Language unit investigates the link between language and human cognition, familiarising you with theories about the nature of language and its evolution.
You will learn about the mechanisms for the production and interpretation of language in the brain; how language acquisition is developed from infancy; and the impacts that brain injury can have on our capacity for language.
Prevailing theories on the nature language will be introduced and explored through this online unit, as well as how language relates to other aspects of cognition and culture.
You must have completed any four units before enrolling in this unit.
