About this unit

What makes a story endure the test of time? This online unit in Great Books explores the longevity of particular written masterpieces in order to answer that question.

You will study works by Homer, Chaucer, Swift and Shakespeare, giving you a well-rounded introduction to the classics and improving your ability to read a range of texts with care and historical awareness.

The unit considers the question of what makes works ‘literary’ and the formal approaches authors of different circumstances and eras have made in illuminating the human condition.

You will not only get to debate and critique some of the greatest works of all time with other interested students, you will also be given the chance to analyse their relevance to today, giving you a chance to discuss their continuity and the connections between past and present cultures.

Delivered online by Open Universities Australia in partnership with Griffith University, this unit counts towards the Bachelor of Arts, Certificate of Arts and Diploma of Arts at Griffith University.
