About this unit

Whether you’re an artist, conservationist or environmental scientist, this online unit in Knowing Nature will give you a greater understanding of how different cultures are responsive to and influenced by nature and the natural world around us.

Offered online by Open Universities Australia in partnership with Murdoch University, the unit aims to provide students with an in-depth and interdisciplinary perspective on nature and the complex relationship between nature, science and culture.

The unit has a strong focus on the Australian environment, and draws upon frameworks such as the sciences and humanities to cover a broad range of topics that include climate change, feral animals, and the unique relationship between Aboriginal communities and the natural environment.

By studying the ways in which society construct and manage nature, the unit addresses the practical, theoretical and ethical dimensions of knowing nature.
