The Latin A unit from Macquarie University and Open Universities Australia aims to teach you the key aspects of the Latin language. The unit focuses on the basics of Latin and teaches you the key aspects of the language such as verbs, pronouns and other key aspects. Latin A has a focus on speaking and written work as well as translation.
As well as the basic groundwork of the Latin, the unit provides you with sentence structures, verbs and other key aspects to further enhance your understanding of the language.
To be eligible for Latin A, you must have completed a level 1 unit.

Latin is known as the root to many European languages. Latin A can give a basic understanding of Latin, which in turn can help you master other languages. Being fluent in multiple languages is a sought-after skill when it comes to getting a job, and learning such a language could improve your employability.
Latin A could prove useful if you were considering a future as a language teacher or if you wish to study law or religion. The unit could also be useful if you were considering working in translations or even in historical or ancient studies.
If you are an Australian citizen, you may be eligible to receive a government HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP loan, meaning you can defer payment of your fees.
This course can be paid for through the HECS-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees on your behalf. You’ll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $54,869 (2016-17 income year).Find out more about government study loans here.
