About this unit

With dozens of creatives required to make even a low-budget feature film, the nature of film as a medium is essentially and necessarily collaborative. How then have we come to recognise certain directors as the sole creators of a film’s vision?

The Auteur: Great Directors (previously known as Screen Analysis 2) examines auteur theory, how it came about and how it has shaped our understanding of film as the product of a single person.

Including a close study of the industry’s most celebrated directors, this unit examines the way each director adds their individual, recognisable signature to a film, and their impact on cinema culture.

Jointly offered by Open Universities Australia and Griffith University, this unit will provide you with an improved understanding of film aesthetics and familiarise you with leading critical theories relating to the concept of the auteur.
