The Fall of the Roman Republic is a fully online ancient history unit, de-livered by Macquarie University, that covers Roman history from 168BC until the reign of Emperor Augustus, or Rome’s ‘First Man’.
Many aspects of the fall of the Republic will be looked at in this unit, including Rome’s domination of the Mediterranean region and how this impacted Roman institutions, the rise of internal instability and conflict and the violence that resulted because of this, and the establishment of a militant autocratic rule in Rome. You will study the changing nature of leadership in Rome in this period as well as the political ideologies and the evolution of morals and ethics.
When you have finished studying this unit you will have an understand-ing of the various political, military and social factors surrounding the fall of the Roman Republic.
It is also recommended that students have completed, or have equivalent knowledge of, the following two units:
When you’ve finished your study, you will have a complete knowledge of this period of Roman history, culminating in the end of the great re-public. You will know about the political views of the time, and the developments and changes to these throughout the timeline.
You will also learn how to examine primary and secondary historical sources and how to reference these within an academic argument in assignments. This unit will leave you with an overall knowledge of and appreciation for the issues which affect and interest historians.
