About this unit

Project Safety Management is an online unit provided by Open Universities Australia in association with Curtin University. In essence, it teaches you the fundamental health and safety principles of a construction workplace, and how to effectively apply them. Additionally, you will evaluate the role of a construction foreman in ensuring safety standards are met, as well as considering the application of health and safety standards to record any breaches.

To begin with, you will explore safety culture itself and the values that underpin it. Following this, you will explore occupational health and safety regulations across a number of construction disciplines, including electricity, scaffolds and hoardings, and working within confined spaces. You will also learn about the process of worker compensation if a safety breach leads to injury or loss of life.

Ultimately, Project Safety Management equips you with a comprehensive understanding of how to apply occupational health and safety principles to construction sites. On completion of the unit, you will feel comfortable in evaluating whether a work-site is compliant with regulations.
