This unit offers a range of learning outcomes which many students will find to be advantageous later in their careers. Understanding how to analyse a case study, for example, gives students a foundation of knowledge which will allow them to analyse their own business strategies, as well as those of competitors.
Successful students will demonstrate their understanding of business level strategy, corporate level strategy, and network level strategy, and will be able to draw links between strategic decisions made at each level. Students will benefit from the hands-on, practical assignments in this online unit, including developing a strategic plan. The group assignment element of the assessment for this course helps students to develop professional interpersonal skills, including the teamwork skills which are so often sought after by employers.
This unit also takes a multicultural approach by exploring business strategy in an international context, ensuring that students are aware of how the cultural element of the external environment can influence strategic decisions. Students will also discuss the industry context and the organisational context, ensuring that they have a broad understanding of the concepts of business strategy.
