Completion of this Open Universities Australia and Curtin University unit will help you gain a solid understanding of the fundamentals of operations management, and the core role it plays in organisations across industries. While studying Managing Operations, you will gain an awareness of the variation between operations in accordance with industry type and sector. This unit will also encourage you to consider differences in operations across cultures, and on an international scale.
During this online unit you will discuss the hot topic of sustainability, and gain an understanding of how operations can be designed to incorporate concepts of sustainability in order to promote a competitive advantage. You will also consider the synergetic relationship between business strategy and operations management.
This online unit covers a wide range of important business management topics, including product and service design, quality management, supply chain management, and project management. Part of the unit will revolve around a case study, allowing you to apply the theoretical knowledge you will acquire during the unit to a realistic scenario.
In order to enrol in this unit, it is recommended that you have completed first year studies in the field.
Applicants must also ensure they have not completed a previous version of this unit.
This unit is not currently a requirement for any courses, but content may be relevant to a number of courses, and could qualify you for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for a course offered by another institution.

During this unit you will develop an understanding of operations management from a cross-industry, multinational perspective. Partake in discussions relating to the trends and challenges in Managing Operations, and augment your knowledge of the importance and extent of innovation, quality and knowledge management in operational performance. You will acquire knowledge of operations management in light of conceptual, analytical and practical factors, and will be able to discuss Managing Operations coherently in layman's terms, as well as at an academic level.

If you are an Australian citizen, you may be eligible to receive a government HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP loan, meaning you can defer payment of your fees.
This course can be paid for through the HECS-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
