Professional Practice is an online unit offered by Open Universities Australia in association with RMIT University. It allows you to pinpoint an area of study in your chosen professional field, and instructs you to produce a project around it. Through self-directed learning and contact with industry practitioners, you will become an expert in the specific domain of your choosing.
To begin with, you will be instructed in the fundamentals of professional practice and given the five assessment areas you will be able to choose from. Following this, you will learn how to create an effective proposal and accompanying presentation, before beginning your research and consultations.
Ultimately, Professional Practice provides you with a uniquely autonomous learning experience, where you can develop your expertise in an area of your choice. As the project is vocationally linked, the skills learned will be highly transferable to a professional context.

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees on your behalf. You’ll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $54,869 (2016-17 income year).
