About this course

The Diploma of Community Services course (CHC52015) through TrainSmart caters for community service workers seeking to formalise their training and work towards more senior roles.

In this hands-on program, students are guided through a series of core competencies, including how to execute community development strategies, conduct client assessments and referrals, manage cases and understand the myriad of sociocultural factors that impact community members.

Work placement

In order to fulfil the requirements of this course, students are required to undertake 100 hours of work placement in a relevant community setting.


There are no formal requirements, however it is recommended that students:

  • Have completed year 12; OR
  • Have achieved an Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy

This course can be paid for through the VET FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
