About this course

The Bachelor of Counselling is a specialist course that provides students with the training and qualifications to work as effective and dynamic counsellors. Delivered by SEEK Learning through the Australian College of Applied Psychology, the course is accredited by the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), and trains students across various key competencies such as counselling, interpersonal communication and effective interaction. Students will also be taught how to recognise major transitional points in human development and how to respond to any number of such crises that commonly arise during these times. Beyond the theoretical knowledge, students will also be given the opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job experience through the work placement component built into the degree.

Work placement

This course includes 250 hours of professional work placement.

Shorter programs

The course also offers the flexibility of early exit points. Should students elect not to complete the entire Bachelor of Counselling degree, they may complete an alternative program and graduate with an Associate Degree of Applied Social Science.  

Eligibility

To be eligible to enter this program, applicants must:

  • Have a minimum ATAR of 70 or equivalent; OR
  • Have successfully completed a certificate IV or higher qualification; OR
  • Have partially completed a bachelor degree; AND
  • Complete an undergraduate screening questionnaire

  • Be aged 21 years or over; AND
  • Complete an undergraduate screening questionnaire

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees on your behalf. You’ll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $54,869 (2016-17 income year).
