Considering Design is provided online by Open Universities and RMIT University, with the aim of teaching students about the applications of design across a range of disciplines. This is achieved by teaching students in an in-depth manner about how to fully consider the impact of design in areas such as sustainability, technology and economics.
Furthermore, students will gain skills in planning and problem solving as well as an understanding of social and historical contexts within design. The unit also teaches students about the numerous theories of design and how they are applicable within real-world contexts. It has the intention of teaching students to more consider the global impact of design with regards to the future and potential of the industry.
Upon completion of Considering Design, students will have produced a group project, an industry report, and a research paper.

Considering Design aids in advancing design-centric careers by teaching students about the wider context and considerations of design, beyond simple aesthetics. This allows you to produce design that is better informed and meets the needs of the client.
Students taking this online unit will learn a range of new skills to apply to their careers. These include how to successfully manage the design process and problems that commonly arise in the design industry. Additionally, those taking the unit will gain a greater sense of professional self-awareness by assessing design practices and using theories of design to help aid, inform and create design practices to a high standard.
Considering Design also aids students in their ability to work by themselves and to be a strong contributory member of a collaborative interdisciplinary team. In their work, students will be able to critically apply the considerations and contexts of sustainability, social significance, the development and limitations of technology, and both historical and economic factors.
