About this unit

This unit on Design Commerce and Culture offers students the opportunity to gain valuable skills and knowledge of working in the communication design industry. Integrated learning methods will be used throughout the unit in order to give students the practical skills required to effectively apply their theoretical understanding.

Delivered by Open Universities Australia and RMIT University, this unit explores the roots and development of the communication design industry, and will discuss how the changes over time have led to the shape of the market today. Students will become familiar with how the industry functions both within Australia and on a global scale.

The future of design industries will be discussed with regard to their relationships with cultural, social, historical, and economic issues. Students will be encouraged to analyse and discuss the differences between business practices and the creative practices which play a central role to the communication design industry.

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
