Delivered online through Open Universities Australia and Curtin University, the Adult Learning and Assessment unit will teach you the fundamental principles of adult education. You will learn different ways in which adults learn, how to work with an adult learner, the way in which you learn and how it will affect your own teaching and assessment.
You will be asked to examine and discuss ideas of metacognition, student engagement and cultural identity and the impact of specific learning environments.
The many factors which affect learning, and in particular, how adults opposed to children learn will be considered and taught in this unit.
There are no prerequisites for this unit; anyone can apply. In order to enrol in this unit, you must be accepted into the Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching.

This adult education unit will provide you with the necessary knowledge to understand how adults learn and the correct and relevant ways to assess their knowledge.
You will be able to demonstrate how each student is different with different learning styles and how to best match that in the classroom. You will be familiar with several different learning models and be able to choose the right one for your students.
You will also be proficient in a different range of assessment tools used in higher education and how current education reforms impact both yourself as an educator as well as your students.
