About this course

The Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Teaching offered online or on campus by the University of New England (UNE) provides you with the skills and training to launch your career as a music teacher.

UNE’s double degree in education and music is structured on the NSW Institute of Teachers' guidelines and will give you the opportunity to develop effective, adaptable skills and understanding in both teaching and music.

As a part of the education component of the curriculum, you will be required to undergo professional practical experience in a school of your choice.

Practical industry work experience

The Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Teaching includes a mandatory work experience placement to ensure that you graduate with a strong mix of practical work experience and academic foundation. The requirements of this course include 80 days of work experience during vacation periods.

All student teachers must also clear a Prohibited Employment Declaration and Probity Check.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this program:

  • Have achieved a level acceptable to the Head of Music in Music 1 or Music 2 in the NSW Higher School Certificate or equivalent.

OR

  • Pass a department entrance test in the six months prior to the date of enrolment.

AND

  • Have a performing standard equivalent to Grade 6 of the Australian Music Examinations Board.

AND

  • Be willing to undertake other musical tests as the head of discipline may require.
