Eligibility

Applicants must also meet the criteria to be eligible for this program:

  • Have a Higher School Certificate or equivalent

OR

OR

  • Have relevant vocational experience.

Practical industry work experience

The Certificate III in Education Support includes a work placement component to ensure that you graduate with a strong mix of practical work experience and academic foundation. The requirements of this course include 60 hours of work placement which can be completed by block placement and/or attendance of one full day or half day in out-of-school hours care (infants/primary classroom setting), special schools or special classrooms/programs in schools.

Additionally, you will need to be able to meet the physical requirements of workplace performance such as manual handling and lifting. You may also be required to complete a basic first aid course.

  • Facilitate implementation of planned educational programs
  • Identify and respond to children and young people at risk (compulsory in NSW)
  • Apply first aid (in some jurisdictions it is a condition of employment that education support workers are competent in basic first aid) – can also be satisfied via the completion of a Senior First Aid Certificate from an accredited provider, at student’s own cost
  • Provide first aid in a remote situation – can also be satisfied via the completion of a relevant first aid certificate from an accredited provider, at student’s own cost
