About this course

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50113) program offered through SEEK Learning will give you the skills and training to be able to meet the varying intellectual, physical, emotional, social and language needs of children in care. Studying this course, you will learn to care for babies and children, ensure children's health and safety, foster and encourage children's development, work with families to care for children, and manage a community sector organisation. As a part of this government-accredited course, you will be required to arrange 400 hours of work placement in a children's services setting and have this pre-approved by OTEN. As with all courses involving contact with children, you will also be required to sign a Prohibited Employment Declaration, which will be provided to you when you enrol. Practical industry work experience

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education & Care (CHC50113) includes a work placement component to ensure that you graduate with a strong mix of practical work experience and academic foundation. The requirements of this course include 120 hours of work placement which can be completed by block placement and/or attendance of full, half or partial days at a registered childcare facility. Students are able to undertake work placement hours at a facility in which they already work, or can find casual or volunteer work to meet the work placement requirements. Additionally, you will need to be able to meet the physical requirements of workplace performance such as manual handling and lifting. This diploma is a recognised qualification that enables you to work in the child care sector. Upon completion of this certificate program, you will be qualified to work in centre-based and family day care, and supervise staff and volunteers. In most states, this is the highest qualification required to work as a director or children's service manager. Legislative regulations require that you must be at least 18 years of age to work in the children's services industry.
