About this unit

This Early Childhood Development unit has been designed by Macquarie University in partnership with Open Universities Australia to introduce you to the concepts of early childhood development and to increase your understanding of the different dimensions in this field of study. Throughout this unit, you will acquire a full knowledge and understanding of the vast array of cultural and educational influences which are of the utmost importance to the early development of a child. This unit has been established as an appropriate platform from which to develop a career as a skilled and adaptable teacher of young children.

The unit covers topics such as physical and motor development, language development, peer relationships and also addresses development theories such as psychoanalysis. The Early Childhood Development unit uses a combination of both practical applications and theory-based methods to that you possess all of the skills needed to embark on a successful career working with young children.
