This online unit provided by Open Universities Australia and Curtin University covers the theoretical and practical aspects of engaging children with nature and the science of the world around them. Whilst studying this Engaging Children with Science unit, you will learn about the key concepts that underpin basic scientific understanding, including environmental science and sustainability. You will have the chance to appraise pedagogical approaches for teaching early years science.
The unit is ideally suited to primary school teachers and will give you the chance to design effective and impactful learning experiences, suitable for children from a range of sociocultural backgrounds.

This online unit will provide you with a thorough grounding in the implementation of early years science teaching. Your own scientific literacy will be developed, as you learn about the most important aspects of engaging young minds with science.
As you continue through the unit, you will understand more about different learning styles, and how to prepare engaging lesson plans for children with different educational needs and backgrounds. You will also develop an in-depth knowledge of assessment and reporting on learning outcomes providing you with a solid basis on which to start a teaching career.
If you are an Australian citizen, you may be eligible to receive a government HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP loan, meaning you can defer payment of your fees.
This course can be paid for through the HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP government loan schemes. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
