In the Literacy Education unit you will learn literacy education skills and be able to successfully teach basic literacy and Standard Australian English to primary studets. Through online course content, delivered through Open Universities Australia in conjunction with Curtin University, you will study different theories of reading and viewing and you will also develop your own reading and viewing skills and learn about different genres and processes of literacy.
You will examine and learn a wide range of teaching and assessment skills suitable for the primary classroom and be able to effectively teach children literacy skills.

Once you have finished this unit you will be able to use Standard Australian English to a suitable degree to be able to teach primary aged children basic literacy skills.
You will also be able to critically assess and apply teaching choices that help students learn how to read effectively and absorb information, keeping in mind the varying ways and rates in which children learn.
