This graduate-entry initial teacher training program allows you to draw on the areas of study you pursued in your undergraduate degree, deepening your pool of knowledge in your chosen areas of specialisation.

The course incorporates practical, professional training in teaching methods, pedagogy and classroom management, with valuable real-world experience provided by 60 days of work experience spread across three units.

This course is offered online or on-campus at the University of New England (UNE). Pursue full-time or part-time study that works around your commitments and work schedule.

Practical industry experience

This course includes a mandatory work placement component to ensure that you graduate with a strong mix of practical industry experience that complements your learning. You will be required to complete 60 pays of professional experience placement, in consultation with the School.

Eligibility

To be eligible for entry into this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Hold a relevant bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.50 (prior studies must include study in a designated area related to a school subject).

Students must also satisfy the following English language proficiency requirements:

  • English is the applicant's first language; OR
  • Satisfactory completion, within five years prior to the date of applying for admission to UNE, of at least three years of full-time or equivalent full-time study at tertiary level in English in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada or the Republic of Ireland, in which English was the sole medium of instruction and assessment for the period of study claimed, resulting in an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) award or an award recognised by the Australian Education International - National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR); OR
  • Have an IELTS (Academic) overall score of at least 7.5, including a minimum result of 8 in both the speaking and listening modules and 7.0 in reading and writing; OR
  • An International Second Language Proficiency Rating (ISLPR) score of at least 4+ in each of the four areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

You may be eligible for advanced standing if your previous education and experience meet certain criteria.

Eligible students can apply for FEE-HELP to cover the upfront costs of all or part of your fees.

Alternatively, you can pay annually for the units you select to study in that year.

The University of New England also offers a number of scholarships to successful applicants.

You may be eligible to receive FEE-HELP for this course!

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.

Instead, the Australian government will pay your course fees on your behalf. You’ll begin repaying your loan through the tax system once you start earning more than the minimum threshold of $54,869 (2016-17 income year).
