Professional Studies in Teaching and Assessment in Junior Primary aims to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of how to create safe, effective learning environments for students aged 6 to 8 years. Offered by Open Universities Australia in association with Curtin University, the unit explores key school contexts and classroom policies, before examining pedagogy and planning lessons in junior primary. Following this, you will examine inclusive teaching strategies and how best to foster a positive learning environment. Finally, you will learn how to plan an integrated teaching program before beginning your placement. Ultimately, Professional Studies in Teaching and Assessment in Junior Primary provides you with a sophisticated analysis of modern teaching methods, allowing you to become a reflexive educator equipped with the strategies to allow children to perform to the best of their abilities.
This unit includes a three-week professional placement with children aged 6-8 years old in a school-based setting. Participation in this placement enables you to apply your theoretical learnings to real-world scenarios, and also addresses professional requirements as outlined by the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority’s Curriculum Specifications.
