About this unit

An online undergraduate unit provided by Curtin University and Open Universities Australia, Civils and Services Measurement applies civil engineering work examples to an examination of the principles and rules of plumbing, drainage, mechanical and electrical measurement. In this unit you will refer to The Australian Standard Method of Measurement of Building Works and the Method of Measurement of Civil Engineering Works and Associated Building Works.

On completion of this unit, you will have developed the ability to interpret and communicate the rules and principles for measuring building services and civil engineering works, and the specifications and drawings for measuring them. You will also explore how to produce measurements in accordance with industry principles and rules.

The unit is assessed using a combination of a case study, an invigilated exam and an online test.

To be eligible to enrol, applicants must have successfully completed the following units:

Building Services Applicants must also have been accepted into the following course:

  • Measuring simple electrical installations
  • Introduction to measuring hydraulic services. Measuring simple plumbing services (part 1)
  • Measuring simple plumbing services (part 2)
  • Measuring simple drainage services
