About this unit

The purpose of 3D modelling is to put your designs into a format that is universally understood, and you can do this easily with SolidWorks software.

This Engineering Drawing with SolidWorks unit of study will guide you through the computer-aided design (CAD) software program so that you can not only design 3D models, but house your product or part data, communicate product or part details and create simulations according to real-world conditions.

You will start by visualising geometric shapes and move on to solid modelling, getting into more detail with section views, then moving down to fasteners, welds and surface textures. The unit also gives you an overview of how SolidWorks is specifically utilised by the engineering industry.

This unit gives you the opportunity to work up professionally-relevant technical skills that you can apply across your engineering career, and gives you the chance to have these skills accredited at the end of the course via the Certified SolidWorks Associate test.

Delivered online by Open Universities Australia in partnership with the University of South Australia, this unit is a core requirement of the Associate Degree in Engineering from the University of South Australia.

Eligibility

Anyone can apply; however, you cannot enrol if you have previously completed the following equivalent unit:

  • Computer Techniques
