About this unit

Gain an introductory understanding of water engineering with this online Introduction to Water Engineering unit offered by Open Universities Australia and the University of South Australia. By studying this unit, you will become familiar with the application of general engineering concepts to fluid flow. These concepts will include principles such as continuity of mass and momentum, and loss of energy due to friction.

You will also explore fundamentals such as hydrostatics, buoyancy and the stability of floating bodies, among a range of other useful concepts. Particular focus will be placed on how water engineering notions can be applied to incompressible fluid flow in pipes. You will discuss flow under varying head conditions, open channel flow and pump selection, and will become capable of making decisions and solving problems regarding these topics.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible to enter this program:

  • Must have completed or be enrolled in the units, Mathematical Methods for Engineers 1 and Engineering Mechanics

AND

  • Must be accepted into the Associate Degree in Engineering
