Road Design and Traffic Management examines the objectives, principles and processes at work in the designing of roadways, with a focus on geometric road design using highway design software.
You will learn to apply current guidelines in the design of roadways, utilising software to select the correct inputs and geometric relations to enhance driver safety and comfort, including road cross-section elements to ensure that horizontal and vertical alignments are correctly placed.
The other focus of this online unit is the importance of traffic management measures, demonstrated through traffic impact studies. You will study existing and emerging traffic control systems.
Open Universities Australia and the University of South Australia offer this unit for online study to improve your understanding of the basic engineering concepts surrounding roadways and traffic.
In order to enrol in this unit, you must be accepted into the following course:
Note: Level 2 units normally assume an introductory level of prior knowledge in this area, e.g. from studying related level 1 units or other relevant experience. You will also require access to Microstation and 12d software.
In this Road Design and Traffic Management unit, the topics you will study include:
This unit is part of a major, minor, stream or specialisation in the following course:
Content may also be relevant to other courses, and could qualify you for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for a course offered by another institution.
