This online unit in Environmental Assessment and Management from Murdoch University provides environmental professionals with a comprehensive understanding and practical skills in both assessing and managing common environmental issues.
The unit, delivered online by Open Universities Australia, explores the application of science to environmental assessment and management (EAM), on a local, regional, national and international level. Focus is particularly centred on protected area management, public engagement, environmental impact assessments, plus the roles industry, government agencies, and other planning bodies play in relation to EAM.
You will learn how to evaluate strengths and weaknesses in different approaches to EAM, and how to employ different methods and techniques to analyse and access EAM-related issues.
Assessment will take the form of two assignments (40% and 30%), and a portfolio of EAM-related work (30%).

Environmental professionals will benefit from broadening their understanding of environmental assessment and management (EAM) throughout this unit. Once completed, you will have extensive knowledge of a range of theoretical principles and concepts found in EAM, as well as a deeper understanding of the processes and practices that make up EAM.
On completion of this unit, you will be able to analyse the different issues that occur within EAM, as well as the policy and practices of EAM. You will have the skills to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different EAM tools and approaches used in decision-making in this field.
You will have developed an understanding of how complex social, political and economic factors can contribute to environmental decision making, as well as the skills to encourage public engagement in EAM issues.

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
