The Advanced Corporate Finance unit, provided by Open Universities Australia in partnership with Swinburne University , builds on the principles of corporate finance developed in the Financial Management unit.
In this advanced unit, students will develop a financial understanding of business valuations using different models. Students will also develop skills in risk management, and master the ability to estimate risks associated with projects and their budgetary implications. Building on the principles and skills of risk management, students will develop an understanding of the merger and acquisition processes.
Through this unit, students will engage with the complex financial problems faced by a range of Australian organisations. The Advanced Corporate Finance unit, provided by Swinburne University and Open Universities Australia, will enable finance students to apply theoretical concepts to real life corporate problems. This is a particularly useful skillset for financial careers. By developing an understanding of risk management, students will build skills and experience analysing different risk scenarios and preparing practical advice in response.
This is particularly useful in the corporate world, where businesses look to minimise their risk exposure. Through the Advanced Corporate Finance unit, students will consider how businesses might select different strategies to hedge risks, particularly within the merger and acquisition process.
This will advance careers as it is a transferable skill across multiple industries, particularly in competitive markets where mergers and acquisitions are more commonplace, and where risks and opportunities are more pronounced. As well as developing theoretical knowledge of financial concepts, students will also master an ability to critically evaluate the strengths and limitations of key concepts, and apply conceptual knowledge to financial decision making.
Beyond the firm, this will also provide students with a foundation in policy-making for corporate finance. This will differentiate students from other finance graduates, thus boosting career options.
