Your time spent in the course will be focused on making you the best fitness trainer possible, equipping you with the skills and knowledge required for this dynamic and multifaceted career.

This course teaches you the essential skills needed to become a personal trainer, and covers topics such as the exercise science behind fitness, planning exercise programs for specific health outcomes, liaising with allied health professionals and planning exercise programs for the elderly. This course also contains aspects of study directly related to owning and operating a small business, equipping you with the knowledge needed to become self-employed or a fitness entrepreneur.

Flexible study modes

This course offers a number of flexible delivery modes that can be tailored around your lifestyle. Options include:

  • Full-time: Three days a week with classes being held from 8.30am-3pm.
  • Part-time (evenings): Two evenings a week with classes being held from 6.30-9.30pm, plus one practical weekend.
  • Part-time (weekends): Classes held every Saturday from 9.30am-4pm, plus two Sunday classes.
  • Online: Choose to study at your own pace, or complete a part-time or full-time course load. You will have up to 6 months to complete your studies.

Work placement

Students will be required to complete 20 hours of work experience with a personal trainer.

To be eligible to enrol in this course, you must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Have successfully completed Year 10 in Australia or equivalent; OR
  • Demonstrate that you have the capacity to successfully complete this course by achieving an Exit Level 3 score within the Australian Core Skills Framework assessments in reading and mathematics. This will be demonstrated through two short tests as a part of the enrolment process.
  • Hold a Certificate III in Fitness (SIS30313)
  • Hold a current First Aid certificate
