Course description:

This unit on Australian Social Policy 1, provided online by Open Universities in partnership with Griffith University, explores contemporary social issues.

During the 13-week program, you will gain insight into some of the key issues that have shaped Australian social policy response. A central theme of this unit is the role of the policymaker and the nature of contemporary social policy. Recurring questions include: have governments lost, or are they losing the ability to bring about social change? Is there a gulf between the views and interests of the government, and the needs, aspirations, views and interests of diverse communities? What makes one social issue worthy of public attention, while others are not?

This unit would be of particular interest to anyone contemplating, or currently working in, a career in government or social work.
