The WorkChoices and post-WorkChoices legislation has created demand for skilled professionals in this ever-changing area of the law.
This program covers employment law and other complementary areas. Often, employment conditions overlap with a range of other legislative requirements such as discrimination, occupational health and workers’ compensation laws. WorkChoices and post-WorkChoices legislation now makes a working knowledge of these areas crucial – and so these complementary areas are covered in the program.
To be eligible for this course you must have an undergraduate degree or work experience, including at least two years in the field of employment law or industrial relations.
Open Universities courses are offered in specific study intakes every year, known as Study Periods or Sessions. This means more flexibility as you can choose when to start studying. If you are studying undergraduate units you can start at the beginning of any of the four Study Periods each year, each lasting 13 weeks. Most postgraduate courses are offered in three Sessions per year, with each Session lasting 14 weeks. Exams are usually held in the week following the end of each Study Period or Session.
The Employment Law Program is taught using an extensive set of printed study materials for each unit. Each subject unit is presented comprehensively with materials that reflect the current legal and regulatory environment of employment law. Throughout the program you will be encouraged to research widely, using both library and Internet resources.
