About this course

The Master of Strategic Organisational Development and Human Resource Management, from the University of New England (UNE), is for professionals who are already working in or aim to work in organisational development and/or human resource management.

The course brings together the human resource and organisational development areas by giving students the knowledge, problem-solving skills, analytical techniques and practical experience required to be effective in a complex and changing business environment.

The aim is to produce graduates who can:

  • lead organisational change and learning;
  • intervene strategically in HR and organisational structures when needed;
  • build partnerships with stakeholders to manage change;
  • think critically about ethical issues in organisational change and development.

Flexible exit options

If plans change, and you can no longer commit to the full Master of Strategic Organisational Development and Human Resource Management, you could still be eligible to receive a postgraduate qualification. Depending on the credit points you've completed, you could exit with the Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management or the Graduate Certificate in Management.


To be eligible for entry into this course, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as business or management) from a recognised education provider and have at least two years' work experience; OR
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in a non-relevant field from a recognised education provider and have at least two years' management experience in human resource management, business and/or management; OR
  • Hold a Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management from UNE or its equivalent plus two years' work experience in HR management, business and/or management approved by the course coordinator.

In addition, all candidates must submit two referee reports, together with a resume and a personal statement outlining: their most significant experiences or professional achievements; their long-term goals and how they see this degree fulfilling these goals; and where they see themselves five years from now.

You may be eligible for advanced standing if your previous education and experience meet certain criteria.
