About this unit

Whether you’re coming from an international aid perspective, or your interest is in security, this unit of study will give you the background you need to understand the Asia-Pacific context.

This unit is delivered by Open Universities Australia, in partnership with Murdoch University, and will help you gain an understanding of the market forces in these areas, and how Asia-Pacific countries are governed.

But the unit is more than the history or economic stories. It will also guide you through the important cultural issues and ideologies that make up the region, with contentious topics such as the politics of Islam, and fragile states covered alongside the rise of China and the influence of the World Bank.

By taking this unit you will get a global perspective on a region that has been hailed as the centre for growth in our current century, preparing you for more informed decision-making and awareness of the global context.

The unit has a contemporary focus and touches on security and the environment as significant areas for study. It will also prepare you for further research into the Asia-Pacific region.
