About this unit

Open Universities Australia and RMIT University offer a fascinating look at how developments in technology have revolutionised supply chain management in this online unit.

Business IT and Supply Chain students will gain insight into how sharing information on a real-time basis can help businesses to reduce inventory levels, limit their lead time and cycle time, and minimise other potential waste in the supply chain. By studying this unit, students will develop an understanding of how improvements in the efficiency of communication technologies have led to improvements in the efficiency of supply chains.

The rise of ecommerce, and how businesses have adapted to it, will be discussed in-depth. Students will explore the issues associated with infrastructure and security, and will become familiar with problems with e-business models and e-supply chain design.

How will this unit advance my career?

Students who enrol in Business IT and Supply Chain will develop a valuable understanding of e-supply chains. They will gain an understanding of e-supply chain design, implementation capabilities, and how information technologies can be used to improve efficiency of supply chains.

Students will also learn about how the real-time sharing of information can reduce waste within supply chain systems, lowering lead time and cycle time, as well as decreasing the need for the safety buffer of high inventory levels.
