Global ICT Practice is an online unit provided by Open Universities Australia in association with Swinburne University. At its core, it provides you with a critical analysis of the global consequences of the digital age, exploring how ICT must be adapted to fit specific cultures and operational restrictions. You will also explore the more technical aspects of ICT practice, including tools such as ITIL/ISO 20000, Prince 2, and PMBOK.
To begin with, you will examine how globalisation has fundamentally altered the landscape of ICT, and how cultural discrepancies affect technology. Following this, you will explore national distinctions in technology adoption, and the ramifications this has for communication within a country. Finally, you will consider the different global architecture of ICT, and how compromise must be reached to set worldwide ICT standards.
Ultimately, Global ICT Practice provides you with a comprehensive understanding of the new issues facing technology as result of globalisation. You will learn how different operational strategies must be employed depending on culture and infrastructure, providing you with cutting-edge insights when you embark on your ICT project management career.

The strongest candidates for ICT project management roles are not those that simply know how to run a project efficiently; they are those who have an intimate understanding of the global state of the field. This is because globalisation is ever on the increase, while technology grows at an exponential rate, meaning global ICT practices are in a constant state of flux.
Completing a unit such as this will prepare you for what these changes will mean, and allow you to make sound strategic decisions in the future. From an employer’s perspective, achieving this qualification shows a strong ability for critical thought, and an extensive global knowledge of the business.
