About this unit

Research Project combines all the research skills from your degree, and guides you through the planning, production and analysis of an industry specific research project.

Provided by Open Universities Australia and Swinburne University, this unit will help you identify a critical area of research in either the IT or business sectors. You will conduct a literature review to identify the issues prevalent in the industry, and decide upon a relevant and critical area to conduct a research project.

The unit will proceed to mentor you through planning and conducting your entire research project. You’ll learn to critically evaluate your target population and audience, and identify any ethical concerns related to the study. You will cover the relevant application process and submit your proposal to an industry body for approval.

When your research is complete you’ll analyse your findings to draw conclusions that address relevant business needs.

Eligibility

In order to enrol in this unit, you must be accepted into one of the following courses through Swinburne University of Technology:

  • Graduate Certificate of Technology (Business Systems)
  • Graduate Diploma of Technology (Business Systems)
  • Master of Technology (Business Systems)
  • Master of Commerce

You must also have successfully completed the following unit:

  • Business Research Methods

  • Skill needs analysis, intelligence and literature search
  • Skills development plan and implementation including: research data analysis
  • Survey instrument design
  • Statements of consent
  • Project management including time, cost and professional quality

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
