About this unit

In the online Administrative Law unit provided by Open Universities Australia and RMIT University, you will discover how administrative legal principles were first adopted and developed in the Australian legal system to give citizens the ability to challenge the decisions or actions of government officials, departments and authorities.

Furthermore, you will also gain a detailed understanding of the merit and judicial review system, ascertain the role of delegated legislation and analyse the role of the ombudsman and freedom of information.

The unit covers a wide range of administrative law topics, and you will finish the unit with a clear and contextualised understanding of administrative law in Australia. Your research skills will also be greatly enhanced by taking this unit, as you will be required to familiarise yourself with legal cases, legislation and regulation in this area.

To be eligible to enrol in this unit, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Have successfully completed or be enrolled in the unit, Introduction to the Australian Legal System and Legal Methods

AND

  • Be accepted into the Juris Doctor course
