This unit, offered by Open Universities Australia and RMIT University, aims to provide you with insight into the legal principles surrounding Australian companies. You will gain an awareness of how organisations are regulated using themes and concepts relevant to both lawyers and business professionals.
On completion of this unit, you will be familiar with the Corporations Act, and be able to identify applicable sections of it. You will also familiarise yourself with relevant case law, and be able to apply the legislation and legal precedent to a variety of hypothetical legal scenarios.
By completing this unit, you will increase your understanding of legal methods, as well as how to research and solve legal problems in a pragmatic manner. You will also be expected to develop the skill set to analyse legal problems in a critical manner, and to communicate your conclusions and ideas using persuasive and coherent writing.

This unit will provide you with a foundation of legal knowledge relating to companies operating within Australia. A range of highly transferrable skills will also be developed to supplement to the specialised knowledge you will gain, including written communication and critical thinking skills. The legal methodologies that you will be expected to develop during this unit will also be useful in applying a legal lens to issues that fall under other areas of the law.
During this online unit you will cover a wide range of legal topics, gaining an understanding of the registration, administration and regulation of companies and other types of business associations. You will also gain some understanding of finance. In terms of legislation, you can expect to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Corporations Act, as well as relevant examples from case law.
If you are an Australian citizen, you may be eligible to receive a government FEE-HELP loan, meaning you can defer payment of your fees.

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
