About this unit

This online Intellectual Property Law unit provided by RMIT University and Open Universities Australia will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the different types of intellectual property rights. This includes examining copyright, patents, trademarks as well as confidentiality agreements. You will study each type in turn and come to understand how they apply in different circumstances and why protection of each of these rights is important.

You will also study the role of international organisations that are responsible for the protection of intellectual property rights, including the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO). This will give you greater contextualisation of the subject matter as it relates to the Australian system and world at large.

By the end of this unit you will be able to understand and analyse the Australian intellectual property system and be able to discuss this with confidence. Furthermore, you will also be able to identify, understand and apply the relevant laws in a practical context.
