About this unit

The online Labour Law unit from Open Universities Australia and RMIT University looks to inform you of the development of Australian labour law, and the numerous aspects of law in Australia and the rest of the world. The unit will examine the role and function of institutions that have an impact on working conditions and regulations in the country, such as the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, the Office of the Employment Advocate and the Fair Pay Commission.

This unit will also serve as a way of introducing you to these institutions to give you an overview of their importance and impact these groups have on society. As well as teaching you the current laws and aspects of employment in Australia, the unit will look at historical problems, as well as predicting future issues that may rise to the forefront.

Eligibility

In order to enrol in this unit, you must have successfully completed, be currently enrolled in or intending to concurrently enrol in the following unit:

  • Introduction to the Australian Legal System and Legal Methods

Applicants are also encouraged to have completed the following units, prior to applying:

  • Fundamentals of Contract Law
  • Contract Law

You must also have been accepted into the following course:

  • Juris Doctor, RMIT University

This course can be paid for through the FEE-HELP government loan scheme. If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa, this means you don’t need to pay upfront.
