About this unit

In the unit Law for Criminal Justice Professionals, provided by Open Universities Australia and Griffith University, you will learn about the legislative frameworks governing certain areas of employment within the field of criminal justice. You will acquire the knowledge and capacity to engage with these legislative frameworks.

Furthermore, this unit focuses on the critical examination of the existing law governing corrections, child protection and juvenile justice and mental health. You will also examine the relevant political and bureaucratic influences on how the law is created and implemented in these areas.

On completion of this unit, you will be able to locate the relevant legislation and other sources relating to the topics studied and apply these to the areas of criminal justice. Furthermore, you will be able to read and understand legislation by applying the basics of statutory interpretation and also evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of these legislative frameworks as well as critically analyse the connection between these frameworks and relevant theories and debates.
