About this unit

Take this online unit offered by Open Universities Australia and Curtin University in order to develop a foundational understanding of contracts of employment and enterprise, to learn about individual bargaining laws and trade unions, and to explore Australia’s federal and state legislation as it relates to industrial laws.

Learn about the sources of employment law, and discuss legislation relating to employment, as well as case law and legal precedent which govern employment. Become familiar with contracts of employment, and how contracts of employment are formed and perceived under common law. Analyse and discuss possible interpretations of case law and legislation that relates to industrial law and employment law.

Your understanding of remedies in employment law will be improved and developed over the course of the unit – there will be discussion of termination and remedies in common law, as well as statutory remedies in response to unfair dismissal.

In order to enrol, you must have successfully completed the following unit:

  • Business Law

It is recommended that you have also completed the following unit, prior to enrolling:

  • Applied Contract Lawpart of a major, minor, stream or specialisation in the following course:
  • Bachelor of Commerce (Business Law), Curtin University

Content may also be relevant to other courses, and could qualify you for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for a course offered by another institution.
